Charity Programs and Events

Free Care Fund: At the heart of St. Barnabas' mission, the Free Care Fund enables poor and low income patients to receive needed nursing and assisted living care. Donations from across the country help maintain St. Barnabas' admissions policy that dates back to 1900: no person will be turned away because he or she is unable to afford the care they need. The Free Care Fund includes no government or taxpayer monies.

Special Events: Many of the community-oriented special events hosted by St. Barnabas benefit the Free Care Fund. You can receive information or register online for the annual Golf Tournament, Founder's Day Celebration, 5K Run/Walk, PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS®, Pennies for Patients, Fashion Gala, the St. Barnabas Leadership Conference, and the Kean Theatre performances.

Special Interest Funds: Can a small contribution make a difference? Yes! Listed below are funds and programs that have become part of St. Barnabas' history.

Brown Bag Fund: St. Barnabas founder Gouverneur Hance begged for food and supplies. The "Fill me up for St. Barnabas" brown bags became notorious around Pittsburgh. Today, regulations prevent St. Barnabas from accepting groceries. However, money to pay for groceries is always needed.

Fuel Fund: Keeping the residents of St. Barnabas comfortable is no small feat. Air conditioning costs add $4,000 each summer month to the electric bill at St. Barnabas Nursing Home alone. To help deflect the expenses, please donate today.

White Goods Fund: Once the "pink ladies" laundered all bedclothes and linens. Today, professional cleaning services have proven to be most cost effective. Still, laundering costs are significant. Your contribution can help that expense.

Gift Giving: For $6 you can pay for the cost of a patient's haircut and style. A $23 donation will provide a new sleeping gown, $1,750 will cover the purchase of a new wheelchair.

St. Barnabas/Valencia Woods Auxiliary: This group of dedicated men and women support fundraising events, and help with PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS®. Since the auxiliary's inception in 1987, it has raised $1,756,130 for the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund. Membership is only $10. Join today, or to learn more email St. Barnabas Charities.
