Southwest Airlines Chairman to Keynote St. Barnabas Leadership Conference
Gibsonia, Pa. - June 15, 2007 - Gary C. Kelly, vice chairman and CEO of Southwest Airlines Co., will keynote the 21st annual St. Barnabas CEO Leadership Conference, "Fast Forward to the Future." The conference will take place on Monday, Sept. 17 at The Washington Place at St. Barnabas, 5847 Meridian Road, and is open by invitation to area CEOs and their seconds-in-command. For information, call (724) 443-0700, Ext. 5258.
The day will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a light breakfast in the Mount Vernon Restaurant. The conference will convene at 8 a.m. in the Kean Theatre, located inside The Washington Place, with opening remarks by William V. Day, president of St. Barnabas Health System. Serving as master of ceremonies will be David Johnson, news anchor on WPXI-TV. Following Day's remarks, Kelly will give his keynote address.
Kelly was asked to keynote the conference because of Southwest Airlines' increasing importance in the Pittsburgh region. Southwest is the nation's largest airline carrier in terms of domestic passengers boarded. The number of flights Southwest offers to and from Pittsburgh has risen steadily in the two years since it began operations at Pittsburgh International Airport. Kelly's participation in the conference is especially relevant in light of cutbacks by US Airways, the region's long-time leading carrier and an important employer. Kelly began his career with Southwest in 1986 as controller. He was promoted to chief financial officer and vice president of finance in 1989 and to executive vice president in 2001. In 2004, he was named vice chairman and CEO.
Following, Kelly's keynote address, audience members will be given an opportunity to ask questions of him. The second portion of the Leadership Conference will be a panel discussion and question-and-answer session moderated by James C. Roddey, former Allegheny County chief executive. Each panelist will be given several minutes to address the theme and explain how their organization is helping the region "fast forward." Serving as panelists are:
- J. Christopher Donahue, president and CEO, Federated Investors
- Michele Fabrizi, president and CEO, MARC USA
- Arthur Levine, M.D., senior vice chancellor for the Health Sciences and dean, School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh
- Jeffrey M. Lipton, president and CEO, NOVA Chemicals
- Dennis Yablonsky, secretary of Community and Economic Development, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
During the final portion of the St. Barnabas CEO Leadership Conference, the Pittsburgh Pacesetters awards will be presented by Smart Business Pittsburgh. Three finalists in each of three categories will be introduced: Emerging (less than $30 million annual revenue), Mid-market ($30 million to $99 million annual revenue), and Large ($100 million+ annual revenue). One overall winner will be announced.
The conference will conclude at 11:45 a.m. with a luncheon at the Mount Vernon Restaurant. Sponsors of the 21st annual St. Barnabas CEO Leadership Conference are Acusis LLC, Citizens Bank, Geyer Construction, The HDH Group Inc., Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Hunter Associates Inc., K&L Gates LLP, Mt.
