Kean Idol Dance Competition Winners Announced

Gibsonia, Pa. - March 13, 2007 - A dance performed by Taylor Enos and Lizzie Pontiere won the Audience Choice Dance Award on Saturday, March 10 at the 2007 Kean Idol Vocal and Dance Contest at the Kean Theatre. Winning the Greg Maggio Judges Choice Dance Award was Karly Schwab of Harmony.

Taylor Enos, 9, of Gibsonia is the daughter of Kelly Enos, and is a fourth grader at Poff Elementary School. Lizzie Pontiere, 10, of Mars is the daughter of Ernie and Lisa Pontiere. She is a fourth grader at Marshall Elementary School. They performed a tap number to "Cool Jerk." Karly Schwab, 13, is the daughter of Maureen and Kirk Schwab and is an eighth grader at Seneca Valley Middle School. She performed a lyrical routine to "Crippled Bird."

The competition was comprised of 16 acts that had advanced from preliminary competition on March 4. A panel of judges selected the top five acts. The audience then voted on their single favorite act. First and second runners-up were also selected based on the audience's vote. Each member of the top five received a trophy. Being recognized were:

Top Five finalist - Trio of Carolyn Duffett, 12, of Pittsburgh; Alex Fownes, 14, of Glenshaw; and Rebecca Roderick, 14, of Allison Park
Top Five finalist - Rachel Mattioli, 16, of Sarver
Second runner-up (by audience vote)- Karly Schwab, 13, of Harmony
First runner-up (by audience vote) - Sodda Pop Kid, 42, of Arnold
Audience Choice Award - Taylor Enos and Lizzie Pontiere
Greg Maggio Judges Choice Award - Karly Schwab

Now in its fourth year, the goal of Kean Idol is to raise $20,000 for the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund while providing a fun singing and dancing competition for area residents. The contest is mirrored after the popular TV shows "American Idol" and "Dancing with the Stars." The 2007 Kean Idol has two competitions remaining: Vocal Semi-Finals 2 at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 24, and the Vocal Championships at 8 p.m. Friday, March 30.
