St. Barnabas to Observe Pastoral Care Week

Gibsonia, Pa. (Richland Township), Oct. 10, 2005 - St. Barnabas Health System will celebrate Pastoral Care Week, Oct. 23-29, with a series of events at its nursing and retirement facilities. An annual, international event, Pastoral Care Week is a time to honor professional chaplains, community clergy, volunteer caregivers, and persons in local congregations who provide pastoral and spiritual care.

Following the theme "Healing Wisdom," the Rev. Joseph Wargo, chaplain at St. Barnabas, will lead worship services and celebrations along with clergy members of the Mars and Richland Ministeriums. Events for Pastoral Care Week include:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 26 - At 2:30 p.m., Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas recreation room will be the site of a Bible trivia challenge between St. Barnabas Nursing Home and Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas patients.
  • Thursday, Oct. 27 - Members of the Mars Ministerium will visit Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas at 11 a.m. to field trivia questions from patients during a "Stump the Clergy" session. A luncheon to honor members of the Ministerium will follow at 11:30 a.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 28 - Members of the Richland Ministerium will have lunch in their honor at 12:30 p.m. in the Williamsburg Room at The Village at St. Barnabas.

    Pastoral Care Week is sponsored by the Coalition on Ministry in Specialized Settings (COMISS) Network, a national organization comprised of pastoral care providers, pastoral care professionals, and faith group endorsers, including the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and the Association of Professional Chaplains.
